Postdoctoral Position in Biomedical Imaging: X-ray Computed Tomography
The School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES) at Virginia Tech -
Wake Forest University is seeking a post-doctoral researcher in experimental
biomedical x-ray imaging, to begin immediately. The position will be
located on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The SBES is a
multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional program that bridges engineering,
science, and medicine. This program combines and leverages the strengths of
Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, the Wake Forest School of Medicine,
the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and the new
Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine to produce an environment that
fosters outstanding interdisciplinary research and education.
The Virginia Tech College of Engineering is consistently ranked among the
nation’s top engineering schools. The Wake Forest University School of
Medicine is ranked among the best medical schools in the United States.
Blacksburg is ranked among the country’s best places to live. It is a
scenic and vibrant community nestled in the New River Valley between the
Alleghany and Blue Ridge Mountains. The town is near national forests, state
parks, and other regional attractions of Southwest Virginia, renowned for
their history and natural beauty.
Research activities include the design and construction of a nanotechnology
enabled x-ray imaging system for small-animal imaging, including both the x-
ray and mechanical scanning apparatus, and system integration. This position
offers the unique opportunity to build a novel x-ray imaging device from
the ground up. The position period is initially for one year, renewable
pending on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Applicants
should have a Ph.D. in applied physics, biomedical engineering, electrical
engineering, physics, or another related field, and have demonstrated
experience in biomedical imaging as evidenced by a track record of peer-
reviewed publications. Demonstrated experience in developing medical imaging
technology, particularly instrumentation, would be considered a strength.
Applicants should also demonstrate the ability and drive to learn new areas
needed to be successful in this position. Interested candidates should send
a Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications, and a one-page
statement of research interests to Dr. Guohua Cao (xray.systems.lab@gmail.
com, email preferred), School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences,
Virginia Tech - Wake Forest University, Blacksburg, VA 24061. Applicants
should also arrange to have two letters of recommendation forwarded on their
behalf.
Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled. Virginia Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
