Ohio State victory means huge refunds for furniture store customers

Several Ashley Furniture Homestore and Better Sleep Shops in Ohio and
Kentucky will be making refunds based on a holiday promotion linked to what
then seemed like a longshot national championship for the Ohio State
Buckeyes.
The Columbus Dispatch reported the furniture chain promised to write off
purchases of $1,999 or more made between Dec. 17-30 if the Buckeyes were to
beat Alabama, and then upend Oregon in the College Football Playoffs.
An additional caveat was that the Buckeyes would have to win the
championship by at least seven points.
After already having dispatched Alabama, Ohio State trounced Oregon, 42-20,
Monday night to fulfill its end of the bargain.
According to the New York Daily News, more than 500 customers made purchases
totaling $1.5 million.
But don't feel too bad for the Ohio-based Morris Furniture Co.; it secured
protection through an underwriter to hedge its bets.
