bielema called alvarez tuesday mid-morning, met him in his room in a new
york hotel, and told him he'd take the arkansas job.
1. mike taylor and other team captains asked alvarez to coach rose bowl. he
agreed.
2. alvarez said this is a 1-game thing.
3. arkansas did not contact alvarez in the process. barry said he was
surprised. he thought bielema was trying to tell him he'd interview at
arkansas when bielema first approached him.
4. barry will be involved with recruiting.
5. coach to be hired will have to understand and share barry's football
philosophy.
6. bielema said he would coach rose bowl if wanted. alvarez initially would
let assistant coaches coach, but players asked him to coach.
7. alvarez is in no rush to hire a coach. interviewing process will start
next week.
8. paul chryst is staying at pitt. alvarez said he called high-profile
friends to help chryst get his job. he won't hire him back. | d********g
