after the season opener and predicted a Vol rout of UF and a victory in a
BCS bowl? How often has that turned out to be true?
I judge a program's potential after two or three games against strong
opponents then determine program success after the last game of the year. I
cringe thinking about how "great" we were a decade ago only to get whupped
by Nebraska, Kansas State and Maryland. Heck, Peyton and company never beat
Florida. I cringe when people underestimate the Gators. Predictions of Vol
victories over Florida are just precursors to a dishful of crow, if history
is any indicator. At this point, UF has better athletes and (no disrespect
to CDD) a better coach than Tennessee. The opener against Bowling Green was
a no-brainer and UF was probably not up for the game in the same way they
would be against Bama, Georgia or Tennessee. If you think that they will not
adjust and that they will play the same kind of game against UT, then that
explains why you are not a football coach. And how, exactly, does one
compare NC State with Bowling Green? Who is the better team? How would UT
have fared against Bowling Green, or UF against NC State?
I love the Vols, but I don't hate the Gators. I don't want to make room for
hate of any kind in my world. What I do want is for every SEC team to be
ranked in the top ten so that when Tennessee beats them, it cannot be
questioned. So yes, I root for every SEC team on the Vols' current schedule
when they are not playing the Vols. Maybe that is sacrilegious, but if we
start looking forward to wins over Florida only when Florida is having a
down year, then our expectations have sunk too low. Put it this way: if you
had to choose, would you rather lose to Florida when they are unranked or
when they are ranked #1? Would you rather beat Florida when they are
unranked or when they are #1? Whenever we play the Gators, I want them to be
undefeated and rated number one in the nation. Then I want to go out there
and whup their a$$es. | u****d
