Is there anything more pathetic than grown men acting like children?
The question at hand brings us to Michigan and Ohio State. Specifically
their football programs. More specifically, both head coaches: Urban Meyer
and Brady Hoke.
Since taking over for the embattled Rich Rodriguez, Brady Hoke has always
referred to the Wolverines' top rival as "Ohio." And now Meyer has got his
own thing going at Ohio State. When asked about the U-M/OSU rivalry earlier
this week, he quipped that he doesn't refer to the Wolverines by name. In
fact, the organization refers to Michigan as "that school up north."
Yes, these are grown men.
I get it, Michigan and Ohio State don't like each other. But just say it.
Say you hate them and want to beat them. Just say it. You don't have to make
nicknames for what you're going to call each other like it's some sort of
recon mission.
But it gets better. Dave Brandon, Michigan's athletic director, responded to
Meyer's recent comments. To paraphrase, he was quoted as saying that Meyer'
s "that school up north" quip is insulting to Michigan State, as they are
the Big Ten school furthest "up north."
Dumb.
But Bo and Woody did it! That makes it acceptable, right?
No, that makes it even more stupid. This isn't the 1970s, this is 2012. Grow
up. Show your hatred for each other, but lets not give each other nicknames
like a third grader getting picked on at recess. It's stupid, it's childish
and, more importantly, it makes your program look ridiculous. | b**j
