Money: This is a corallary to point one. Research and grant money follows
academic prestige, and that academic money DWARFS sports money at the the
top conferences. The Big 12, Pac 12, Big 10 and SEC all have similar TV
revenue streams -- roughly $15M per year for the lower Big 12 schools up to
a high of about $22M per year for EVERY school the new Pac 12 deal. In the
SEC, reseach money is about the same as that sports money ($15-20M per year
per school), but in the Pac 12 and Big 10, its 10 TIMES as much, with
average academic dollars in excess of $100M per school.
Case study: before Penn State joined the Big 10, it was a 3rd tier school
that received less than $15M per year in research dollars. Now its ranked #
47 (same as UT) and has over $100M per year in research dollars. Its fellow
Big 10 members were able to eventually pull it up into the AAU, and the
school is much better overall because of it. | Y******e 发帖数: 20256 | | h***i 发帖数: 1970 | 3 以后obama cut funding,没有什么research money了,就指望sports money.
