Contrary to ESPN, Michigan's AD and others who claim to be in the know,
Miles was indeed offered the job at Michigan and it was a damn strong offer.
Michigan offered more money than Les was making at LSU. Miles admitted that
he and his family have come to love LSU and Baton Rouge, and leaving for
Michigan was not worth it. I am sure the fact that Michigan is a rebuilding
job and LSU is primed to make a run at a national title next year had
something to do with it.
Here is what I know about his new contract: Les now has a 7-year deal with
LSU. For the first two years, the buyout clause (ie, what LSU would have to
pay Les if we fired him) is $18.75 million. The buyout amount reduces to $15
million after three years, and then reduces by $3.75 million after each
subsequent year. There is no more rollover clause.
