CHICAGO -- Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany says the conference may
reconsider the names of its new divisions after overwhelmingly negative
feedback.
Delany told WGN AM-720 in Chicago that the Legends and Leaders names were
designed to highlight the Big Ten's rich history and that "to a great extent
it's fallen on deaf ears."
Many fans have mocked the nicknames and the Big Ten offices have been
flooded with letters asking the conference to reconsider the names.
Delaney says that could happen after the first of the year, once people have
had a chance "to breathe a little bit."
Delany says the conference considered naming the divisions after people, but
decided that would be too limited.

The Big Ten unveiled new division names in honor of its expansion earlier
this week, and the reaction was overwhelmingly negative.
The disapproving voice was so singular and so loud that it reached the ears
of conference commissioner Jim Delaney.
Delaney told Chicago radio station WGN that the non-approval – which he
estimated at 90 percent – "was really surprising." We're more surprised
that 10 percent actually liked them. The division names, "Leader" and "
Legend," are terrible and fail to accomplish the conference's stated goal.
In the interview, Delaney said the division names were chosen "to recognize
the past." But the agreed upon names are too generic to recognize anything.
We said at the time that the Big Ten should have picked names that actually
honor its storied tradition by highlighting something unique to the
conference or the region. Every conference has its leaders and its legends.
The Big Ten should honor theirs by emphasizing something unique to them.
Luckily, Delaney said he's going to "address the issue" down the road. They'
ll stick with the current names for the time being, allowing them the chance
to marinate, before ultimately deciding whether to move on. It's easy to
mock the original names, but it's difficult to admit error. For once, we
applaud Jim Delaney.
Now he just has to make a playoff happen.

。其他conference起名字都是put it simple and straightforward. 老老实实用west/
east挺好。 |

理吗？不过你们的区名也够糟糕，谁都记不住哪个队在哪个区。

卡总共才1千万人口不到。duke/wake出了学校方圆10mile估计根本没人看。其他州有4
个学校的是CA/Texas,可人家俩州有多少人啊。ohio就一个学校，人口1千多万，osu没
法不火暴。其他big ten的powerhouse也是类似情况，覆盖球迷太多了。
忘了ohio还有cincy...不过可以忽律。。。
