THE TRESSEL DEAL
OSU coach Jim Tressel’s contract didn’t change much with the
announcement of a two-year extension Monday. In fact, he received just a
$2,000 raise per year over his previous deal.
SALARY
2010: $3,522,000
2011: $3,652,000
2012: $3,777,000
2013: $3,777,000
2014: $3,777,000
BONUSES
• Up to $300,000 per year in academic bonuses tied to the yearly
academic progress rate of the team and to the quarterly cumulative grade
point average of the team.
PERKS
• Use of a car for Tressel and his wife.
• Golf club membership for Tressel and his wife.
• 40 tickets to each football game and four tickets to each basketball
game.
• 20 hours of personal use of a private jet, estimated at a value of
around $450,000.
END OF CONTRACT
• $3 million payment if Tressel is fired without cause.
• $1 million buyout paid by Tressel if he leaves for another job.
RETIREMENT
• Guaranteed either a faculty position or associate athletic director
position upon retirement.
• For the rest of his life, granted two seats in the former AD/coaches
box, four seats in the pressbox and one parking pass for all football
games; and two season tickets and one parking pass for men’s basketball
and women’s basketball.
