In stead of being "convicted" and deprived of the honor, Bush returned it "
voluntarily". Look at his statement, it gives the impression that he gives
it up not because what he did were wrong but because of pressure upon him
and Heisman trust. He did it to preserve the dignity of Heisman and he will
continue to hold himself to the higher standard as if he is still a Heisman
winner.
So instead of a black eye, he presents himself as the white knight.
