GETTING INSIDE
No one was quite sure where Aaron Brooks(notes) had gone or why, and that wa
s the problem.
People did, however, seem to have their suspicions.
Brooks, who has seemed as unhappy with his role as with his play in recent w
eeks, went to the locker room with nearly seven minutes left in regulation S
aturday though he did not seem injured.
No trainer accompanied him. There was no injury report. When asked where Bro
oks had gone, Rockets coach Rick Adelman said, “I don’t know. I don’t kno
w. You’d have to ask him.”
Sunday, he was suspended for one game for, according a two-sentence press re
lease, “conduct detrimental to the team.”
If Brooks had been hurt, someone likely would have mentioned it to the coach
.
Instead, it seemed that Brooks had gone to sulk. He has been finishing games
, but not successfully. He is making just 36.7 percent of his shots, just 30
.2 percent of his 3-pointers. On the team, only Jordan Hill(notes) carries a
worse plus-minus.
Adelman, however, has stuck with him, playing Brooks next to Kyle Lowry(note
s) when matchups would allow.
When he did not do so against the Grizzlies, Brooks seemed to walk out. |
