The Academy has released its shortlist for the foreign-language Oscar and it
’s an interesting list, with some names expected (like the entries from
Iran, Israel, Germany) and some more surprising. The Belgians declined to
nominate the Dardenne brothers’ film “The Kid With a Bike,” and their
choice, “Bullhead,” a crime drama, made the cut:
– Belgium: “Bullhead,” directed by Michael R. Roskam
– Canada: “Monsieur Lazhar,” Philippe Falardeau
– Denmark: “Superclásico,” Ole Christian Madsen
– Germany: “Pina,” Wim Wenders
