I am deeply disturbed by Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Kids Table’ show. It was aired
on ABC recently and talked about killing all the Chinese so that the states
do not need to pay back their debts to China. The kids might not know
anything better. However, Jimmy Kimmel and ABC’s management are adults. The
comment "Killing all the Chinese" is NOT a joke, no matter who says it. It
is totally unacceptable. Jimmy Kimmel and the ABC network should know this "
Killing all the Chinese" comment is offensive and racist, and they had the
responsibility to edit out the racist and hatred content.
Jimmy Kimmel and the ABC network sends a very clear bad message that it is "
interesting" to kill. It is immoral, illegal and inhumane. With the recent
mass killings across several states, did they lose their conscience not to
promote hatred and killing?
A formal apology must be issued by ABC and Jimmy Kimmel to ALL of its
viewers. I ask that your office launch a formal investigation to look into
this matter.

To xxx,
This letter is to express my great discontent towards ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel
Live(JKL). In the “Kids Table” section of Oct 16th episode, Kimmel asked
the children guests how to solve US’s debt crisis. When a boy immediately
suggested to “kill everyone in China”, Kimmel commented the idea as “
interesting”. Although later Kimmel did try to show the children it is not
a good solution, instead of pointing out the wrongness of killing, his
reason was "if you kill everyone in that country, you can't borrow money
from them anymore”. The underlining message appears as if another creditor
country can be found, then the idea of genocide would be acceptable.
I’m very disturbed by the above conversation, which is immoral in so many
ways. It suggests that for our children, killing other people is a strategy
to avoid their own responsibility. While the six-year old may not realize
the true meaning of his remarks, Kimmel, and the entire program team, are
adults. It is to my extreme surprise that this conversation is allowed to be
broadcasted on a national channel. Haven’t we had enough cases of campus
shooting? Haven’t we had enough violence among teenagers? While the entire
American society are desperately seeking for solutions to avoid such
tragedies, the above conversation is sending out a very dangerous message to
the youth all over the nation. Although the program is a late night show,
it is easily accessible to children and adolescents by other meanings. As a
matter of fact, the aforementioned episode is still available on ABC’s
website without any restriction right at the moment when I’m composing this
letter. Although at the end of the conversation, Kimmel acknowledged its
wrongness by referring it as “The Lord of Flies edition”, the indication
may not be clear to many of its potential underage audience.
In addition to being a crude and lethal message to the next generation
Americans, the remark of “killing everyone in China to resolve our debts”
reminds me the Holocaust, where Nazi persecute Jewish people during the pre-
WWI economic crisis. It also reminds me of the massive destruction happened
in Syria only two months ago, where innocent citizens, including children,
being crudely killed. Despite the iconicity nature of TV programs such as
JKL, this minority-targeting joke is extremely insensitive and inappropriate
.
I strongly insist ABC immediately remove the episode from its website, and a
formal apology should be issued for all the concerned parents and for
everyone who loves peace.

Step by step, 花两分钟向FCC投诉Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Here is what I sent in.
The Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Kids Table’ show that was aired on ABC recently
talked about killing all the Chinese. I am deeply concerned and disturbed
when hearing this racial hatred language from a kid (!) to be broadcast (!)
in a TV show!
This kid does not just randomly rush out words like "killing" out of nowhere
. This show is scripted by the comedy show writers. It implies certain
inappropriate and negative impact from his surroundings and environments.
Instead of immediately stopping this racial hatred, Jimmy commented it as an
interesting idea and further suggested “Should we allow the Chinese to
live?”
This is totally outrageous! Promoting violence and killing to kids in a
public platform must be prohibited and punished. Let's get united and take
some action! I strongly believe that FCC should be involved and take
actions to request a sincere apology from Jimmy Kimmel and ABC and stop the
show. |
