to godhood, were almost within her grasp when they were stolen by two mere
mortals. At least they had managed to capture one of them, but that was not
the one who carried the elfstones. She had summoned the the captain of her
guard who now stood opposite of her trembling in fear.
“So captain”, The Dragon Queen hissed “Would you care to explain why the
elfstones were stolen”.
“W-w-we d-did everything we could m-my lady,” The captain managed to
stammer, “but they were just too f-fast for us”.
“Too fast? too fast?” The Dragon Queen shrieked in rage, “ It seemed more
to me like your men have spent too much time lazing around when they should
be paying attention to intruders! Do not fail me again captain”, then she
dismissed him with a gesture. The Dragon Queen sighed. She’ll have to see
what information the one they captured has.
Sophronia Amalea or Ronia was an elf with black hair and amber eyes, rather
than the usual pale blond hair and light blue eyes of most elves, marking
her as a member of the elven royal family. Ronia was unlike other princesses
who cared only about dresses and embroidery, instead she wanted something
more exciting. She got her wish when the elfstones, relics of great power
passed down from countless generations of elves, were stolen by the Dragon
Queen. Ronia had gone after them without thinking. She managed to send off
the elfstones with her friend Hawken but in doing she had been captured.
Ronia just hoped that Hawken had escaped safely. She was now in a dark damp
cell with a flea infested straw mattress on one side. There was a small hole
under the door through which her jailers passed food to her. When the door
to her cell was suddenly opened Ronia looked up as two of her jailers
roughly grabbed her and marched her out. They went through a maze of
corridors and Ronia gave up trying to keep track of the turns. Eventually
they stopped at a pair of massive oak doors that were ornately decorated
with carvings of knights fighting dragons, but in these carvings it seemed
that the dragons were the victors. Ronia was shoved through the doors then
her jailers quickly left closing the door behind them leaving Ronia alone to
face The Dragon Queen.
Hawken ran until he collapsed. Then he started crying. Coward, he thought to
him self. He had ran when Ronia was in danger. He should have stayed and
fought but instead he ran, leaving Ronia to face the soldiers alone. He didn
’t even know if Ronia was still alive right now. He looked dully at the
blue elfstones in his hand. They seemed like every other pebble you find
along a river bank save the fact they were blue. Was it really worth all the
fighting just for these little stones? His thoughts drifted to when the
first met Ronia. She had told him that if the elfstones were to be placed in
the hands of The Dragon Queen she could use them to gain immortality, but
right now these stones seemed so ordinary so power less. Had Ronia been
mistaken about their power? Then he remembered what she had asked him to do
when she pressed the elfstones in his hand. With new found strength Hawken
started off again headed towards the elven capital determined to fulfill
Ronia’s last wish even if it cost him his life. He would return the
elfstones to Phylis Amalea the elven king.
Ronia studied the figure that sat on the throne. It had a vaguely human
shape but it’s body was covered by scales as black as night. It’s head
seemed like that of a dragon, it’s hands and feet were clawed, and bat-like
wings sprouted from the figure’s back, but the most striking thing about
the figure was its eyes. They were an unnatural violet color, and they
seemed to glow. When those eyes looked at you they seemed to look through
you and see something about you that yourself had never known. So this,
thought Ronia is, The Dragon Queen.
The Dragon Queen studied the girl before her wondering how this elf with no
noticeable skills had managed to outsmart her and steal the elfstones. The
girl didn’t seem to be trained for any kind of hard physical labor and she
had black hair and amber eyes. Unusual for an elf. “Who are you?” she
asked, “Don’t lie to me girl or you’ll regret it”. When the elf didn’t
answer The Dragon Queen shaped her magic into millions of tiny needles and
sent them at the girl. Ronia cried out in pain then quickly answered
“Sophronia Amalea”
“ Ah the elven princess. A poor choice for the task of taking back the
elfstones. It seems that the elven king is even stupider than I thought,
sending his only daughter to such a dangerous task” The Dragon Queen mused.
“ My father is not stupid!” Ronia shouted back angrily, “He never knew I
was going until I was gone”
“ Then your father should have noticed shouldn’t he little princess?” The
Dragon Queen asked. Then she turned towards one of the guards next to her
and gestured for him to take the girl away.
It seems the girl was worth more than she appeared, The Dragon Queen thought
. Perhaps Phylis would be willing to give up the elfstones in return for his
daughter’s life. It was a possibility, but she would still send men to
track down the one who currently had the elfstones. If they couldn’t catch
him then she would have to use to girl to bargain with her father.
When Ronia was back in her cell she felt so foolish. Why did she tell The
Dragon Queen her name? Now the Dragon Queen knew who she was and could use
her as a bargaining tool for the elfstones. Ronia felt tears welling up in
her eyes. Why did she come after the elfstones in the first place? Now that
she had a taste of adventure Ronia wanted nothing more than to go home.
unable to keep back the tears anymore Ronia leaned against the wall and
cried. Suddenly she felt a brick moving under her weight. She quickly
stepped back from the wall and to her amazement a section of the wall slid
away to reveal a secret passage. Driving back an impulse to run into the
passage and go where ever it led Ronia thought about her choices. She could
stay here in her cell still a captive but knowing where she was or she could
go into the passage and hope it leads out. Taking a deep breath Ronia
stepped into the passage and the darkness beyond this way if she died at
least she wouldn’t be used against her father.
Hawken had been walking the whole day with no sign of pursuit. He hoped that
maybe The Dragon Queen had forgotten about him, but then again maybe pigs
will fly. By nightfall he had found a clearing to camp for the night.
Instead of risking a fire Hawken foraged for berries and edible roots. After
eating what he could find, he curled up best as he could and was asleep
almost immediately. A ways off The Dragon Queen’s trackers followed his
trail relentlessly knowing the fate that awaited them if the didn’t return
with the elfstones.
Having stepped into the passage Ronia noticed a torch set into a bracket in
the wall and some flint and tinder stuffed into a crevice. She removed the
torch from the bracket and used the flint and tinder to light it. As soon as
the torch was lit the section of the wall slid back blocking the way she
had come. Ronia sighed. There was no going back now. As Ronia continued on
the passage seemed to slope down. Time was only marked by her changing
torches which were placed at regular intervals along the walls. After hours
or days Ronia didn’t know she came to an underground lake. the lake’s
black waters were perfectly still and it stretched in every direction beyond
what the eye could see. The only visible way to get across was a small boat
. With no other choice Ronia got a lit a new torch, set it in the bracket at
the front of the boat, got in and started rowing. When she was out of sight
of the shore line, there was only the smooth black water nothing to get her
bearings from. Ronia could only hope. After hours of rowing fatigue finally
caught up with Ronia and she felt like she couldn’t move any more, so she
pulled up the paddles and placed them next to her then she curled up and
went to sleep. The lake’s only inhabitant followed the little boat waiting
to catch the first meal it had for five centuries.
The Dragon Queen was in her rooms the captain of her guard once again stood
opposite of her trembling in fear. “ What do you mean she escaped?” The
Dragon Queen screamed
“P-p-p-please f-forgive me m-my l-l-lady” the captain said white with fear
, “b-b-b-but it s-s-seems th-that sh-she just d-d-disappeared.”
“You have failed me one too many times captain” The Dragon Queen said her
voice now a hiss instead of a scream. Then without another word she shaped
her magic into a blade and killed the unfortunate captain. | b*****o 发帖数: 3499 | 2 Harry Potter的作者要失业了
