Construction and career
Provornyy was laid down on 25 July 2013, and launched in November 2019 by
Severnaya Verf in Saint Petersburg.[3] The transfer of the corvette to the
fleet is scheduled for the end of 2022.[4] [5]The ship will become part of
the Joint Forces Command in northeastern Russia and will be based in
Kamchatka.[6]
On 17 December 2021, Provornyy caught fire while being fitted out at
Severnaya Verf, St. Petersburg.[7] Nearly 170 firefighters were dispatched
to deal with the incident, and it is reported that the fire covered almost
the entire deck of the corvette.[8] Three construction workers have been
injured, with two of them being hospitalised.[9] However, no fatalities have
been reported, and there was no construction occurring at the time of the
fire.[10] The current status Provornyy, and the scale of the damage to it,
is unknown (as of 17 December 2021). |
