Warning: Curiosity is dangerous, you couldn't unlearn.
I used to look on craigslist for fun, same as here.
I came across a post in the resume section. A said she lost all identities
and needed money to pay food, rent, and phone bill. She was on drugs, but
now is living in a sobering house and keeping on AA meetings. She wants a
respectful job, because she doesn't want to go down anymore. As it's weird
to hand money to strangers, I made up a personal project for her to let her
investigate the homeless condition in town for one month with $1000. I saw
homeless all around town, worse in recent years, so I do want to have some
first hand info.
She called me back, she said she was homeless at some point and knew
someone was homeless. She was excited that she could help.
In the first meeting, she handed me a note, $420 in money order, owed to the
sobering house, application fee and rent. I also gave her $100 to pay for
identities with the cash app.
She started finding and visiting homeless camps around town. She shared
some interviews using the old Chromebook I gave to her. She was energetic on
the project. In the next meeting, she told me she bought a map and pinned
all those sites. She's happy that she found some new sites. We even talked
if she could learn to make steamed bread, and sold it as cottage food under
the law.
Things look good, then the drama comes.
I got a call that she was repelled from the sobering house. The sobering
house only repels people on relapse. I almost gave up on her. But she said
she didn't do drugs, but she visited a hospital for pain, and the doctor
gave her some medicine to make her positive.
So I came to the front door of the sobering house, waiting to talk to her.
She was packing and her housemates came out one by one to have a cigarette.
She comes out and is very different from other days. One of her housemates
said she is on drugs. I looked at her moving things into my car, and thought
what the hell. She got into an argument with the housemate and the
housemate called the police. Then two police cars came, parked behind my car
. I finally got a chance to see her hospital documents. She was admitted to
hospital the day before for abdominal pain. But she actually has a brain
problem as MR showed. She used to take ADHD medicine, a similar drug, from
six years old to be able to get in school, as her grandma told her. The
medicine makes her miserable, not the drug.
I finally dropped her to a place where she thought she could put her bags.
Someone fixed motorcycles inside the house. Her cousin drives by. He was an
alcoholic, but nice at the time, talking to try to get a job from a shelter.
He knew they were short of hands, but never returned the call. The house-
owner? came back with a girl fixing lips in the car. I left her there.
Yesterday evening, I got her call. Last night she was in a terrible house,
and almost got the Chromebook stolen. She couldn't check into the shelter
for a reason I didn't hear clearly. She is on curfew, being homeless after
10:00 pm will lead her to jail. She's on probation for a third degree felony
for having meth, if the court record I found is hers.
Here's the help I would ask.
1. Money. Given her medical condition and crime history, she would need a
long time to find a job even if possible. I could only spend limited money
on her before I got in trouble. While one thousand is not a big deal for me,
one thousand every month is too much for me. That works if she could be
accepted by another sobering house with low rent. Right now, I let her stay
at a hotel, like burning money. So I also need some emergency money too.
She has to use/ be used with controlled medicine as in hospital, it becomes
harder for her to get into another sobering house.
2. Idea about aids she could get. Right now, she's trying to get food stamps
. What else?
3. Help for her medical condition. She has pituitary tumors and other
genetic problems. I have a copy of her hospital report.
What do you get? Nothing, but a promise that I will spend all the money on
her or similar person if you agree, or return. Maybe a painting, she said
she could paint.
Send me a message if you would like to help. And thanks for spreading the
words and having fun.
