The House of Representatives yesterday voted to raise the debt ceiling,
which would allow the government to borrow money to cover its financial
obligations.
The package would also extend government funding through Dec. 3, and prevent
a government shutdown like the one in Dec. 2018 and Jan. 2019 that led to
the furlough of nearly 400,000 federal employees. The federal government is
more than $28 trillion in debt.
However, if the Senate doesn’t agree with the House to do this, the
government could find itself unable to make various payments—and that could
happen as soon as October. | b**e
