A white police officer in Texas fatally shot a black woman inside her home
after officers were called to do a welfare check, according to authorities.
Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, 28, of Fort Worth was killed by an unidentified
police officer with the Fort Worth Police Department on Saturday morning.
62-year-old James Smith, Jefferson's neighbor, called the local non-
emergency number after he noticed her front door was open and lights were on
around 2.25am.
He knew Jefferson was supposed to be home with her 8-year-old nephew.........

The thing is at night with the lights on in a room, someone on the outside
looking in can see whats happening in the room - but the person inside the
room cannot see whats going on outside. The woman inside probably never even
saw the officer. If she had a gun it was probably to brandish at what she
thought was an intruder about to break in.

Something missing from this story. If neighbor saw lights on etc and called
non emergency number then why can’t he go to th effort door and knock? What
was the perceived reason to call police?

I found a wallet a couple of days ago. I tried without luck to return it to
the owner. Today I saw a cop in his car by the fire station. I told him I
wanted to give him the wallet. He said he would have to call another officer
to come and get the wallet from me. He wouldn't let me leave and said that
the other officer would be there in a couple of minutes. Meanwhile he went
in his police car and looked me up. After about 20 minutes I went over to
his car. He asked me questions about my work. I am pretty successful but was
very annoyed that I had to be subject to him looking me up when I was just
trying to return a wallet. He acted friendly. It took 30 to 40 minutes for
the other cop to arrive. I was glad that he didn't ask me any personal
questions. He knew who the owner of the wallet was and said he would call
him. This shows that there is a certain level of risk whenever you approach
a cop for any reason. I had a bad experience in Chicago during the 80s with
cops so I rather avoid them.

He prematurely shot. Before he can finish saying the command, he was
shooting through the window. Not enough time to respond to his command. I
don't know if it's a lack of training, or if they're working scared, but
neither one sits well with me.

The relationship between police officers and the public will never be healed
if situations like these keep happening and the officers are not held
responsible. The public has to question what kind of training are the
officers really doing? Is it just a formality for them, show up and sign the
list saying you was there. Because there is no way an officer shows up and
does NOT announce themselves nor knock on the open front door. Creep around
the outside of the house like a prowler and doesn't say a word until you are
about to shoot. Sad state of affairs.

It's a welfare check. He didnt identify himself or even call to her. Then he
says put your hands up and immediately shoots before she could say or do
anything. You shouldn't be an officer if you are afraid of your own shadow.
The "I feared for my life" line is getting old.

Why mention that a firearm was found in the home unless she had it on her
and was pointing it at the office, which she was not. Just trying to stir
