“BUT.. Without this I and almost everyone else that live in a rural area
would never see 5G. Why? Because the cost to build it out in the big cities
would be so expensive, that the carriers would never have any money left to
get into the rural areas. A city owned utility pole costs about $500.00 to
install in the ground and maybe $50.00 a year to maintain with a 25-30 year
life expectancy. Cities were planning on demanding $500.00 per year per pole
"rental" from the carriers and they were planning to get that from every
carrier that used the pole.
Since 5G is going to need a minimum of 10 times as many poles as 4G, the
expense was going to be astronomical.
As for me, and everyone else in a rural area, it took almost 20 years to get
from 2G to 3.5G. AT&A and Verizon claim I have LTE but I almost never see
faster than 4mbps speed even though I am paying for a national plan that
they advertise as 12-14 mbps and the people in te big cities actually get
those and sometimes even faster speeds.
So, How was this guy right? The FCC should have DEMANDED that everyone that
buys the same plan, for the same price, no matter where they live should get
the same level of service.” |
