Body of missing hiker from Torrance recovered from Mt. Baldy

MOUNT BALDY >> A sheriff’s helicopter Thursday recovered the body of a man
found near Devil’s Backbone the previous day, according to a San Bernardino
County sheriff’s news release.
Yucheng Jia, 26, of Torrance was reported missing 3:08 p.m. Tuesday after he
went hiking on Saturday and didn’t return, the news release stated.
A deputy located the missing man’s vehicle parked near Manker Flats shortly
after he was reported missing. A search and rescue team walked a nearby
trail that evening, and a large-scale search was scheduled for the following
day, the news release stated.
At about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, a helicopter crew that was part of the search
“observed a body in the area of Devil’s Backbone, and a short time later
determined it was a deceased adult male,” the news release stated.
The helicopter wasn’t equipped to recover Jia’s body, and unspecified
dangerous conditions delayed the recovery until Thursday, according to the
news release.
An autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death. | g******g
