Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure
apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will
see a “Password incorrect” error when trying to sign in. If this is the
case, you have two options:
Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security
measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Ask your system administrator to change your account access by going to
the "Less secure apps" section of MyAccount and checking the box next to
Allow access for less secure apps. We don't recommend this option because
it may make it easier for someone to get in to your accounts.

thunderbird, outlook, evolution, 不支持并不是因为这些软件技术落后，不支持的
根本原因是现在还不存在一个two factor登录的标准。

Evolution supports two step log-in.
I have several Google counts with 2-step log in enabled, and have no
problem accessing them from Evolution client in Fedora 22.
