City officer charged in Pa. fired 14 shots at man
Officer told police he believed man, whose wife he was texting, was going to
kill him
April 30, 2014|By Justin Fenton, The Baltimore Sun
The off-duty Baltimore police officer charged this week with shooting a man
outside his home in York, Pa., fired 14 shots and had been exchanging text
messages with the victim's wife, according to court documents.
Officer John E. Torres, an 11-year veteran of the city force, worked a
second job as a security guard at a Maryland grocery store with the victim
and the victim's wife, police wrote in court documents.
The husband, identified as David Hohman, 34, of Baltimore, found out about
the text messages and became angry, according to the records. The day of the
shooting, Torres said Hohman threatened to tell Torres' wife and the Police
Department about the relationship, then drove up to the officer's home, the
records show.
Torres told police that he was outside his apartment when Hohman drove up
behind him at a high rate of speed. He said he feared that Hohman was going
to kill him. Police, however, said Hohman did not drive at Torres before the
shots were fired and never stepped out of his vehicle.
Torres emptied his Glock handgun into Hohman's Nissan while Hohman was still
sitting inside the car, police said.
Hohman was shot six times, including several that struck him in the chest,
and police said Tuesday that he was being treated at an area hospital.
Police said Torres told them in an interview that he believed Hohman had
previously been involuntarily hospitalized in Baltimore County, and that he
had a shotgun that had been taken away by police but returned to him.
Baltimore County police provided a report Wednesday showing that Hohman's
wife called police in February saying that he had written a suicide note and
purchased a shotgun "because he found out that his wife … was cheating on
him with another man."
Officers who responded to the scene found Hohman upstairs with a shotgun and
refusing to come downstairs, the document said. He was taken to a hospital
for an emergency evaluation and the shotgun was seized. Cpl. John Wachter
said police remain in possession of the shotgun.
Torres was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault after York
Area Regional Police say he turned himself in following the shooting.
Torres was assigned to the Baltimore Police Department's Southeastern
District. In 2008, he shot and killed fellow officer Norman Stamp, who was
involved in a fight at a Southeast Baltimore strip club while off duty.
Torres, who had been called to the scene, was cleared of wrongdoing by a
civil jury.
Torres was wearing his uniform at the time of the Pennsylvania shooting, and
Baltimore police spokeswoman Sgt. Sarah Connolly said city detectives are
participating in the investigation. | d******a 发帖数: 32122 | 2 我记得对陪审团的要求就是只能知道这个案子

检方应该能用前一个案子来证明Torres爱开枪不靠谱吧。
