Dear David and Robert,
We are students of XX（学校名）. We are writing to you for strongly
protesting against a disgraceful incident that happened in the commencement
ceremony in the morning of April 25, 2014: a girl made the statement of “
Tibet is a country” at the podium in the ceremony.
It is really inappropriate and definitely unacceptable to bring politics
into the ceremony, not to mention to make politically-incorrect statement
publicly at the podium in the ceremony. It has been commonly accepted all
over the world that Tibet is part of China. The United Nations and
governments of all countries in the world, including the US government,
accept that Tibet is part of China. This is because of the fact that Tibet
became part of China in the 13th century, and has been part of China ever
since then.
It is humiliation of XX to allow politics to be brought into commencement
ceremony and to allow politically-incorrect statement to be announced at the
public event. We strongly protest against this offensive incident occurring
in the commencement. We demand XX take immediate actions to guarantee such
incidents never happen again.

校头头的回复
Dear Students,
Robert and I want to thank you for writing us to express your feelings about
what was spoken by one of your fellow students during her presentation at
the XXX closing ceremony. We are sorry that those remarks upset you, and by
this communication we are acknowledging your email to us.
We want to take this opportunity to explain two principles involved in this
situation. First is that the XXX ceremony is a student-centered event in
which the students do nearly all of the speaking. We have never, in 25
years of this program, advised students about what to say— or not say; we
just ask that the remarks be brief. This becomes another learning
experience for all of our students.
Secondly, a bedrock of the US Constitution and one of the most important
freedoms in the United States is what we refer to as the First Amendment,
also known as Freedom of Speech. While we feel that this celebration
ceremony is not the place to engage in speech which could change the
emotional tone of the event or to focus on world politics, students have the
right under the US Constitution to free speech. While we understand that
this speech may have been offensive to you, it still does not take away the
right of a person to say it, just as under the Constitution, you would be
within your rights to write and say the content of the email that you sent
us taking exception to the remarks.
Robert and I would be glad to discuss these first amendment issues and how
they work with you if you would like to- just call or email, and we’ll
arrange a meeting.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. It is one of the most
important principles in the US. The student has a right to say what she
said and you have a right to refute it. Here, we can all disagree with each
other, even on the most sacred of issues such as whether or not there is a
G-d, whether we are or are not destroying the earth with carbon emissions,
whether gay people can marry, etc., but you have the right to your point of
view and others have a right to theirs. Again, we appreciate your
perspective and thank you for giving us an opportunity to discuss the
fundamental value of Free Speech.

是，就是了。如果不是，你也有自由反藏独。
第二，每个人都言论自由，显然说明第一条需要没有政治选择性。
作为对等原则，学校有选择的选择了藏独言论，需要学校解释。
记住，抓住他说话的漏洞，坚持自己的观点。

发帖数: 793 | 23 下次典礼的时候，几个参加的同学在典礼进行中举出标语，不要喊口号，不要跟人争辩
或解释，不要跟人发生肢体冲突，不要干扰典礼正常进行，只要静静的坐着举标语，完
事后走人。事后，在校报上发篇文章把来龙去脉说一下，并声明毕业典礼上不应该挑起
政治争论，但是既然有人在先而且得到校方默许，那你们只能这么做。几个本来就要参
加的同学私下组织一下就可以了，不要牵扯中国学生会，不然落人口实。 |
