BEIJING (AP) — A group of knife-wielding menattacked a train station in
southwestern China on Saturday, leaving at leasttwo people dead and 18
injured, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
Xinhua did not provide more details about theevening attack at the Kunming
Railway Station in Yunnan province, and theattackers were not identified.
Kunming city police said they did not haveimmediate information to release.
Local television station K6 said that several ofthe attackers were shot by
police and that victims were being transported tolocal hospitals.
The state-run Yunnan News said that the men werewearing uniforms when they
stormed the railway station and that gunshots wereheard after police arrived.
Photos circulating online showed scattered luggageand bodies lying on the
floor in blood.
The motive behind the attack was not immediatelyclear, but China has seen a
number of mass stabbings and other attacks carriedout by people bearing
grudges against society.
