One more to add:
chicago is THE birth place of modern skycraper and the father of skycraper,
the great american architect louis sullivan, based his practice in chicago.
chicago is the mecca of "american" architecture and powerhouse of "free
market economic theory"
chicago has two "chicago schools":
1. the chicago school of pairie architecture pioneered by louis sullivan and
represented led by frank lloyd wright;
2. the chicago school of free market economoy theory, led by a group of
noble laureates in economics with the most famous milton friedman, their
base is the department of economics at chicago univ.
even today, if you are going to pursue a phd in economics in chicago univ,
the chances are your major professor is a noble prize laureates, if he is
not, he will most likely be in a few years.
both movements revolutionaized america and by doing so they changed the
world and their impacts are historical and on-going.
