A computer science professor at the University of Houston Clear Lake who
allegedly threatened another faculty member over getting tenure has been
charged with making a terroristic threat.
Lei Wu, 40, was arrested April 10 and was released the same day after
posting $500 bond.
According to Wu's arrest warrant, he asked to speak with the coworker on
April 8 about a work-related matter.
Because the coworker "had issues" with him in the past, the woman decided to
tape record the conversation, the affidavit states.
During the conversation, Wu told her he wanted academic tenure, a status
that essentially would make his position permanent. He allegedly threatened
her and the tenure board, saying, "Both will be blood."
The woman asked him what he was trying to say and he again said, "Both will
be blood," according to the arrest warrant.
The woman asked Wu to explain what he meant because she interpreted his
comment as a threat to her and the board members.
Wu replied, "It will be bad for either" and repeated, "Both will be blood."
The woman believed Wu was going to physically assault her or staff members,
the affidavit stated.
Wu is scheduled to appear April 16 in Harris County Court at Law No. 4.
A terroristic threat is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in
jail or a $4,000 fine, or both.
Wu, who has a doctorate in computer science from the University of Montreal,
holds the rank of assistant professor in software engineering, according to
the University of Houston Clear Lake website. |
