Hanoi, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam amicably received a training ship from
China, while the Foreign Ministry's spokesman called to avoid complications
in the East China Sea, a focus of controversy.
Training sailors arrived in the port of Ho Chi Minh City, where they will
stay for three days for a professional and sports exchange with their local
counterparts and will lay a wreath at the monument to the founder of
Vietnamese independence.
In statements to reporters on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong
Thanh Nghi expressed Vietnam's disatisfaction with China's announcement of a
national plan to protect and explore in the disputed Hoang Sa (Parecel) and
Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.
In accordance to Beijing's plan, the disputed maritime zone would be divided
into seven areas, which Vietnam claims as part of its sovereign territory.
The spokesman referred to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982) and
the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the East China Sea as the basis to
solve the dispute.
