Although rumours of his imminent dismissal are circulating widely in Beijing
, Mr Bo spent the last 10 days appearing in public at the annual session of
the rubber stamp parliament in his capacity as a member of the 25-member
Politburo, the second-highest decision-making body in China.
Some analysts and officials believe removing Mr Bo, who remains popular with
conservatives and the military and whose father was a revolutionary hero
and vice-premier of China, could trigger an open schism within the Party.
But others say allowing him to carry on as before makes the Party look weak
and beholden to powerful, well-connected individuals. |
