发帖数: 8042 | 4 This is a case of no news being news. The U.S. Navy sent the recently
arrived aircraft carrier the USS Abraham Lincoln into the Persian Gulf on
Sunday. The crossing of the Strait of Hormuz was without incident, according
to a statement from the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.
Recently, Iran had threatened the U.S. with retaliation should the Navy send
a carrier into the Gulf after the departure of the USS John Stennis.
"USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) completed a regular and routine transit of the
Strait of Hormuz, Jan. 22, to conduct maritime security operations as
scheduled and in support of requirements set by the combatant commander,"
the statement said.
In recent years, the United States has kept one carrier in the Gulf and one
in the North Arabian Sea for much of the time.
U.S. military officials have told CNN the United States will continue its
long-standing military commitment to having an aircraft carrier in the Gulf,
but will not say when the transit will take place in light of security
concerns about Iran. |
