据美国哥伦比亚广播公司1月3日报道,美国马萨诸塞州查尔顿市(Charlton, Mass
(Dan Dowd)

if there is rule, follow it. a rule is designed to be enforced.

d**********2 发帖数: 684 | 15 it depends on the code of the county. if the law says it is a crime (
although very minor) to ignore library's late notice for a few times, then
the library has the right to ask the cops to investigate. And it is the cops
' job to do the field work.
it is all about the law.
If you do not like the law, just get enough supports, go through the
legislation procedure to change it.
it is a law of the people, by the people and for the people. of course,
majority of the people.

d**********2 发帖数: 684 | 17 it is her mom's responsibility to make sure her daughter's books are not
overdue. Actually the library called, emailed and sent notice many times but
the mom ignored.
according to the library policy, they have the responsibility to recover the
materials paid by the taxpayers (either retrieve the books or collect the
fine). If the mom does not cooperate, I am not surprised the library sent
the cop to investigate.
this is a society of law.
you follow the law, you will be fine. If not, you pay.
When you borrow books from the public library, you agree to its conditions
and rules.
Simple as that.

because they broke the law and the law gives the cops the right to do so. if
小左棍们 think they were treated wrong, they can sue the county and win a
big compensation.
For example, there are rules on where you can occupy and for how long or
what kind of permission you need, if you do not follow this law, you are
screwed.
The properties of companies, business, and homes are private properties. The
owner can ask you to leave or deny your access. If you refuse their request
, you are trespassing and you will be arrested.
Public lands have its own rules. Such as national parks, city parks. If you
do not follow, the authority can give you fine or arrest you.

d**********2 发帖数: 684 | 20 sb. it has nothing to do with the president. it has everything to do with
the rule of the library and the law of the city or county.
警察must照章办事because they are requested by the library and they are paid
to do their job.
Probably the library and the little girl mom can resolve this matter in a
better way but technically the cops or library did nothing wrong, because it
followed the rule.
if they did it wrong, the girl and/or her guardian can sue the library or
county for emotional damage. I doubt any judge will rule in their favor,
though.
remember: US is a country of "united states". People manage their own towns,
cities, counties, or states. The relationship between the state and federal
government is also defined by the law.
When you move to a new place, just pay attention to its law. If you do not
like it, just move away. if you choose to stay, then you have to follow it.
Otherwise you may be in trouble if you ignore them.
again, freedom is not free and it should not and will not be.

d**********2 发帖数: 684 | 22 you are right. unless the financial issue is a crime in its characteristic.
similar situation is the enforcement of fishing law. it is designed to
protect the property, right, freedom of the majority. it can be strictly
enforced: when you keep a fish in illegal size or amount, you are screwed.
without such a law, there would be no good fish anymore.
look what happens in China. the public property is because tang-sheng's meat.
eventually, that is why majority of f1 like to stay: a safer, freer society
where your property and right will be strictly protected as long as you
follow the law not to damage others.
