Quote:
A rebel military spokesman, Abdulrahman Busin, said in an interview on
Sunday, “We have hard evidence of deals going on between China and Qaddafi,
and we have all the documents to prove it
"Graeme Smith, a reporter for The Globe and Mail, said that the documents
his newspaper posted were found by him in the trash in the Bab Akkarah
neighborhood, where many Qaddafi regime officials lived. They were on the
green letterhead of a government procurement department.
"State Department, Pentagon and intelligence officials in Washington said
Sunday that they were unaware of such dealings and would need more time to
analyze the documents. A senior NATO diplomat in Brussels discounted the
report as highly unlikely, but said he was not familiar with the documents
cited in the article.
"Members of the United Nations’ Libya sanctions committee said that nothing
about arms dealings with China had been brought to their attention

(4) James M Dorsey, China Scores Fatal Own Goals in Competition for post-
Gathafi Libya. Middle East Online, Sept 4, 2011
http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=47913
Quote:
"In contrast to China, Russia scrambled in the past week to turn the page
with the rebels and protect billions of dollars in arms, energy and
infrastructure deals concluded when Mr. Gathafi was still in power.
"The Russian moves contrast starkly with China’s position, which
increasingly appears in Libyan eyes to be duplicitous and tarnishes its
image across the Middle East and North Africa whose populations are closely
watching events as they unfold in Libya and share the aspirations of those
who succeeded in ousting the third autocratic leader this year.
My comment:
(a) Middle East Online is based in London, but I can not find anything else,
such as publisher, nature of publication.
(b) Biography of the author: "James M. Dorsey is an award-winning journalist
and commentator on foreign affairs who has covered ethnic and religious
conflict and terrorism across the globe for more than three decades. Over
his career, Mr. Dorsey served as a foreign correspondent for among others
The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor
and UPI in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Central America and Washington.
Currently, Mr. Dorsey writes free-lance and frequently appears as a
commentator on radio and television.
(5) This thing is snowballing.
