reactor building at Japan's damaged nuclear power plant, the plant operator
said Tuesday.
The US-made, remote-controlled robots were unable to look into the building
of reactor 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was
crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the operator Tokyo Electric
Power Co said.
The operator stopped the robots when their cameras fogged over from the
steam.
According to data collected by the robots during their 51-minute mission,
the air near the building entrance showed 4.1 millisieverts of radiation per
hour, 34 to 41 degrees Celsius, 94 to 99 per cent humidity level, and 19 to
20 per cent oxygen concentration, Jiji Press reported.
The survey failed to confirm if the building was flooded, Jiji said.
Irradiated water has collected in parts of the facility after being sprayed
on the reactors to cool the fuel, hampering access by workers trying to
restore the normal cooling functions. | k*****a
