One of the reasons many foreigners were able to leave was the fact that
Italy, France, Greece & Germany were already using their aircraft and ships
to get any evacuees out of Libya! England and China were very slow to
respond to the situation in Libya! Greece was heavily committed from the
start to help with the evacuation of any foreigners, and China having no
initial capability to save their own people, asked Greece to provide
additional ships for the Chinese nationals trapped in Libya for which Greece
had already pledged to rescuing anyways!
Finally, the Chinese government had actually expressed thanks to the
international efforts of these countries, which they probably had to,
because it’s hard to cover up the fact that 30,000 Chinese were rescued by
other nations efforts to get all foreigners out of harm’s way!
The diversion of the Chinese frigate to Libya from anti-piracy escort duty
was an attempt to “show off” that they were also in the rescue effort,
when in fact, it was the earlier international cooperative efforts that
accomplished getting most of the 30,000 Chinese nationals out! The Chinese
frigate is set to arrive on Wednesday, March 2 in Libya!
Same with the four IL-76 transport planes being sent, as the illusion the
Chinese government wants to show on TV back home is………………………look,
we are getting our people out of Libya! Hey that’s great, except pretty
much all the Chinese nationals have been rescued already!
When those IL-76′s land in Libya, I hope the Chinese do the same for other
nationals still trapped in country, by evacuating anyone else trapped there,
as “better late than never” does mean something to those still trying to
get out of Libya!
The other school of thought is that China is only testing their ability for
long range flight operations! Many believe China is only committing ships
against ani-piracy to test their capabilities as a future blue-water navy as
well. I hope such suspicions of China is wrong, but I have to admit, their
total lack of transparency is the main reason why China carries no
credibility as a peaceful & harmonious nation among her neighbors in East-
Asia today.
Maybe China’s leadership will now understand just what “cooperation”
really means when the international community lends a helping hand in the
evacuation of all trapped foreign nationals in Libya! |
