"Lutz Bertling, the head of Eurocopter, the world’s largest civil
helicopter maker, told Reuters he expects China will move from making civil
helicopters in joint ventures and under licence to producing its own from
scratch within the decade.
"Because of this [cumbersome redtape to obtain approval to take flight],
there are less than 150 helicopters in the whole of China, according to
aviation consultancy Frost & Sullivan, compared with tens of thousands in
the US.
"The total number of 'general aviation' aircraft, including all non-military
aircraft not operated by commercial airlines, in China was less than 900 by
the end of 2008, according to Chinese state media reports, compared with
220,000 in the US. |
