the doctor can offer cheaper alternatives.
* If you don't like the price or co-pay on drug, ask the doctor if a cheaper
/older Rx. is possible. Pharmaceutically the newer one may not be worth it.

* For long term medications, switching to mail-order can save a few bucks (e
.g. $20 copay for 3-mo supply vs. $10*3 at local pharmacy).
* If considering self-paid elective procedure (e.g. hernia), you could shop
around and negotiate a bit. Same for pregnancy/birth package.
