elevated AFP in patient with chronic hep b infection is concerning for
hepatocellular carcinoma, he might need a liver ultrasound, normally they
say if AFP is high the lesion should be more than 1cm, if there is any
lesions found on ultrasound, he'd need biopsy, then depends on the result
and number of lesions he might be suitable for chemo-embolization and
transplant,
don't know if his interferon was standard or pegylated, if he failed
pegylated INFa, then he might need to be switched to antiv

don't know what kind of interferon he used. I only remember his treatment is extremely expensive. | x******n

sorry to hear that,
in addition to the antiviral agent lamivudine, there are a bunch of other
antiviral medicines such as
adefovir which has advantage against lamivudine-resistent strains of hep b;
entecavir, telbivudine,tenofovir are other antiviral drugs,
there are some anti-viral drugs in trials, include emtricitabine,
famciclovir, clevudine, val-d-cytosine and valtorcitabine, alamifovir,
pradefovir, i didn't read into the details andnot sure if you could get
those in china, in general

pretty effective even for lamivudine-resistant hep b,

pegasys is about $5-600 a vial per week for total of 48 weeks injection,
that's about $26,000 per treatment course,
