current standard treatment is approximately 15 month.

chemotherapy. depending on MGMT status, survival may differ. |

发帖数: 4124 | 7 i would advise against coming to the US. i was an investigator of a GBM
clinical trial using a new drug delivery scheme and we saw a small number of
patients surviving 5-6 years, but their quality of life since diagnosis was
horrible.

statement 前段时间到北京治疗，但是病情还是比较严重. if you truly want to
bing the patient to the US, consider a few things including the following.
1. where was the tumor? how big was it? how well was the patient doing at
the time of diagnosis? what was her Karnofsky score? what was the extent of
her resection? how well was she doing after the first surgery? what other
treatment has been given?
2. what is the expectation of the patient and her family? would the family
accept the loss of the patient's independence as part of the recipe to have
a longer survival?
i understand the desire of the patient and the family to fight the hardest
as they can. i also understand the importance of these fights to the
advancement of medicine. but on the other hand, we also want patients to
have a reasonably good quality of life, instead of seeing them and their
family suffering for the sake of a longer survival. this is so stark in GBM.
because in GBM, the loss or disturbance of neurological functions impact so
directly on the patient's quality of life. |
