and their families. But before getting a PSA test, all men deserve to know
what the science tells us about PSA screening: there is a very small
potential benefit and significant potential harms. We encourage clinicians
to consider this evidence and not screen their patients with a PSA test
unless the individual being screened understands what is known about PSA
screening and makes the personal decision that even a small possibility of
benefit outweighs the known risk of harms.”

recomendation, which draw huge criticism from radiologists
This time, the fight is far from over, as it touched the cheese of
urologists.
Next time, will be PAP smear, then the OB/GYN, primary care and
cytopathology will be affected.
All the recommedations are non-bound, till HHS secretory sign the bill.
From the population study and financial reasons, PSA might not be a good
test, but what the replacement?
if PSA screening is removed from the prevention list, most patients have to
pay out of the packet (part of recent insurance deductable movement). The
insurance compay will be happier. Many GU commerical labs will suffer.
Wait and see if Obama goverment will push for it.

which is what will happen if this recommendation is accepted.” He and other
urologists said that the P.S.A. test is just one part of an overall
strategy that, in the hands of well-trained doctors, can help prevent death
and other consequences of cancer.
Treating patients with prostate cancer is a highly profitable business in
the United States, and much of the practice of urology is dedicated to this
fight. If men no longer get screened routinely, urologists will see a steep

that profit plays any role in his defense of screening.
“That I’m going to treat patients that don’t need therapy is morally
repugnant,” he said.
But Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society,
suggested that is what doctors like Dr. Kapoor are doing. “We in medicine
need to look into our soul and we need to learn the truth,” he said.“If your income is dependent on you not understanding
