Microscopic: seen in a background of lymphocytes and lymphoid tangles are
sheets and clusters of atypical follicular cells, characterized by enlarged,
pleomorphic nuclei and abundant, glassy cytoplasm. Occasional intranulear
inclusions are seen.
A BRAF mutation was detected in a molecular assay. This mutation has been
reported in papillary carcinomas with a more aggressive clinical course. |
