I totally understand why some obsessed with science: especially in US, it is
really like the sky is the limit. Compared to MDs who have to follow
routines to protect the career., Ph.Ds set their 'imaginations' free
and push the knowledge forward to expand human being's horizons. That's per
se is lots of reward that can't be measured by money.

P********r 发帖数: 92 | 6 It took me a while to find the original literature, published online on the
lancet, January 23, 2012 .
Very weird that I could NOT find it from pubmed. But if you are interested go to
http://healthland.time.com/2012/01/24/early-success-in-a-human-
treat-blindness/
there is a link to original Pdf .
I am very interested to see if there is long term uncontrolled
proliforations or the development of teratoma in the 2 patients... 4 months
is not long enough to declare the safety of the treatment to me. But still,
it is very inspiring. Kudos to all the scientists in stem cell field,
although the famous one is always going to be the MDs who eventually
delivered the translation.
once the cell-therapy starts in the not-too-far-out future, I hope our Ph.D
colleagues' life will be significantly improved rather than they'd lose
funding and jobs...
(to happyhill: I do not have the answer to your Q. Do you? My take is being able to conquer the 'unknown'
and 'make happen' are rewarding enough to alot of people. it's sad to see in biology lots of people using
science as a spring-board. Then, it could be torture like hell..)
