Questions
Residents at North Shore Medical Center have demonstrated academic
excellence, integrity, character, and kindness -- all characteristics needed
to become a successful physician leader. The residency program participates
in the National Residency Matching Program and does not consider prematch
positions. Below are answers to some common questions about our program.
Salem doctors conferencing
Is training in hospital medicine part of the program?
Yes. Our residents work directly with NSMC hospitalists. The hospitalists
act as the attending physicians during the time that residents move through
the in-patient portion of their training. Our residents also work with
hospitalists during a month-long consultative medicine rotation.
Are observerships available at NSMC and if so, how do I apply for one?
To be considered for an observership with our residency program please email
us your CV . If accepted, we will contact you with availability. Things to
note:
A criminal background check must be completed prior to final approval.
Proof of up-to-date immunizations and a TB test is also required.
There is a fee of $200.00 to cover associated costs.
We have a maximum of two observers per month, except during the months
of June or July, when we have none.
Observerships are intended for medical school graduates.
Observers participate Monday through Friday
Observerships begin and end on the first of the month unless they fall
on a weekend.
Due to the high volume of requests observerships cannot be extended for
longer than one month.
Performing an observership within the NSMC Residency program does not
warrant any special privileges. The program is not obligated to offer an
interview or residency position at the end of the month.
Letters of reference, at the completion of your observership, are at the
discretion of the attending physician. Observers must sign a
confidentiality agreement and adhere to the already established NSMC
residency program code of conduct.
Observerships are inpatient only, working directly with residents and
medical students.
Observers are expected to attend morning report conferences, noon
teaching conferences and Grand Rounds.
Observers are not permitted to establish any direct contact with
patients. They can accompany the team during patient rounds.
Observers must provide their own white coat. |
