Things you need to know before your presentation:
1. The purpose of the presentation
2. Time available
a. ED or clinic – 2-3 minutes
b. Work rounds: new admission – 5 minutes; follow up – 3 minutes
Key points to remember for case presentation
1. Be organized
a. Relevant information
b. Concise (1st most common mistakes for medical students)
c. Include the pertinent positive and negative findings
d. Prioritize your differential diagnosis
2. Tell a story – not read from the chart (1st most common mistakes from
CMGs)
3. Don’t forget to report updated overnight events.
Keep in mind, to present a case during clinical rotation is different from
presenting case during interview. |
