missed the first 2 lectures. But still learn some info from the following
talk. Many thanks to the organizers, especially those who would like to
share and help follower! Special thanks to Dr. Gu, who give the 1.5h talk
while on call. Besides, very happy to meet several long-term study partners
on the meeting. I am not alone on the way, w u my buddies.
Hope attendees can share and add more info.
Notes for IM application, by Dr. Guo
1. Know who are our competitors:
ECFMG certificate China 300/yr, Indian 1,600/yr, US 2,600/yr, Canada 500/yr,
Parkistan 500/yr.
IVY admisstion 5-10%; US medical school 1-2%...
2. Difference of research VS. clinics:
Research: thinking
Clinics: repetition
3. Materials needed for application:
Certificate, PS, CV, ROL 3-4
Plus: Step3 score, USCE, MSPE (dean’s letter, especially for fresh
graduates)
P.S: anyone would like to share content of MSPE would be big plus.
4. IV: more important than exams
Medical knowledge, professional, communication
1). IV selection: Step1, 2, MSPE
2). Ranking:
interaction w faculty; interpersonal skills; interaction w housestaff;
feedback from current resident; evidence of professional ðics
A tip: doctors will not judge u by how nice u are during iv, but ur behavior
during banquet—how nice u are to waitress, etc
TIPS:
a. Complete info before application
b. Confidentiality
c. 2nd visit: similar to ob
d. post-iv communication
e. ROL (rank list): never talk about ur impression about previous iv
hospitals during other iv
f. Thank u card: need to be individualized
5. Core competencies:
Medical knowledge; practice-based learning; Interpersonal &communication

4. About research experience during iv:
Path: be very careful about sharing, as ur interviewer can be the expert
(IV: 30min/person)
IM: only until interviewer mentions ur research experience, talk about it.
(IV: 10min/person)

know how delicious it was, also missed several famous ID& good friends for
further talk~~

麦地的传统不是凭空而来的，是多少学长前辈，以开拓者的勇气和经验不断激励作为后
来人的大家。衷心感谢他们所做的一切！

我在ACAP也没记个笔记，所以就瞎写几句。
从ACAP回来了，为所有组织者的热诚深深感动着。正因为有了前人无私的奉献，一步步
坚实的脚印才慢慢踩出了后人在美从医的这条小路。
我自己觉得去开这个会，取经是次要的，主要就是感受氛围去了。就跟当初考GRE要去
新东方一样。呵呵。
看到了充满正能量的小马哥，二丙医生等等，不虚此行啊。
几点：
1. 了解美国的医疗体系。
2. 最重要的就是communication, communication, communication. 能明白别人的俚语
，玩笑。能聊天。
3. Stay hungry, stay foolish。Never, never, never give up. 其中含义自己体会
吧。每个人都不是完人。

Those numbers seem like not correct. Indian and American graduates are way
more than those numbers.
