A typical day on the floor
~7a morning reports / grand rounds and pre-round your patients (means you
need to pre-round before the morning conference)
~9a round with the attending and the team
~12p noon conference
Afternoon: finish your work
~4-5p ideally you can leave now if: you are done with your work, and you are
not on call.
If you are on call that day, you need to admit new patients and cover the
old patients after other interns leave. On call schedule varies from
programs to programs.
Before you start--
1. download the epocrate to your iphone or itouch or whatever, know how to
search a drug you want.
2. get a pocket book, highly recommends Pocket Medicine by the MGH, or
Washington Manual. The point about the pocket book is, you can get a quick
yet highly structured reference. Online Up-to-date is also a very good one,
but sometimes when you are short of time and just need a quick answer, you
would really like the pocket book better.
3.practice your CS again, i.e, on your first day as an intern, you know how
to take a history, do review of systems, write a admission note, and a
progress note (SOAP note).
4.do you know the common differentials for the common chief complaints?—go
back to practice on your CS topics again.
5. get a stethoscope, penlight, reflex hammer

edition while you purchase the paper book. You can download it into your iphone
, too without paying additional fee.
