Edsger Wybe Dijkstra, one of the creators of the art and science of computer
programming, has died. Born in Rotterdam in 1930, his career in Europe and
America included some of the first computer simulations in aviation and arch
itecture. A background in mathematics and science -- his mother was a mathem
