Job Title: Senior Analytical Chemist
Site Location: North Chicago, IL
Abbott is seeking a polymer scientist with rheology experience to fill an
entry level position in their physicochemical characterization group
DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE:
Support the Abbott Technical Operations Functions and the Abbott Technical
Centers worldwide. Resolve physical characterization issues associated with
commercial and research & development drugs, drug products, excipients and
raw materials.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Liaison between functional groups as well as sister divisions for a wide
variety of physical characterization aspects including the meaning of
physical characterization data from various sources; how the physical
characterization data meet the client’s needs; the quality aspects of
physical characterization projects and also timelines for projects.
* Work independently to develop and validate a wide variety of physical test
methods (i.e. particle size, crystal morphology, microscopy, powder flow
properties, polymer properties, etc.)
* Manage whole projects: establish schedules, project plans and direct
activities of other scientists and non-scientists as well as provide
training and development for others.
*Write/co-author memos and scientific reports in support of Regulatory
Submissions, Regulatory Field Alerts and support quality control and
manufacturing documents.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will have knowledge of general physical property
testing, thermal analysis, chromatography, spectrometric methods, rheology
and material science. Knowledgeable of compliance requirements. Have good
problem solving abilities, organizational, communication and interpersonal
skills. Can function as a team player. Must be able to work with Commercial
Operations to determine prioritization of projects and meet tight deadlines.
Must be adaptable and maintain the ability to be flexible in an ever
changing and challenging environment.
Preferred qualifications: Expertise in polymer science and rheology.
EDUCATION: Degree in chemical engineering, materials science, polymer
science or related discipline. PhD with 0-2 year experience preferred or MS
with 3-6 year experience.
