Description
The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an
experienced PhD level scientist to fill the role of Senior Analytical
Chemist with Dow's Analytical Sciences group located in Spring House,
Pennsylvania. Rapid product/process research, development and manufacturing
require physical and chemical measurements that remove hesitation and
guesswork. Immediate problem solving is critical, including physical
characterization and identification of chemical compounds and additives
which may affect product/process performance, or produce a novel product/
process with unique characteristics. Dow Analytical Sciences provides
businesses with team members and other resources to meet this critical
measurement need. The capability is divided into technology disciplines,
which provide custom problem-solving teams to tackle specific needs
identified by Dow businesses.
Specifically, we are seeking a chemist/chemical engineer/materials scientist
with rheology expertise and a broad knowledge of polymers and analytical
chemistry and possessing excellent laboratory skills. This role collaborates
with other chemists to solve challenging problems using a variety of state-
of-the-art rheological techniques. Participation in all aspects of the
rheology laboratory is expected, which includes helping to characterize
samples, develop methods of analysis, and solve problems in a team
atmosphere using various rheological techniques.
Specific responsibilities will include rheological expertise and the conduct
of routine and custom rheological measurements on multiple instruments
focused on the properties of colloids, emulsions, polymer solutions and
melts, and other complex systems.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science or a
closely related discipline is required for this position. Postdoctoral
experience and/or industrial experience of 3-5 years, with broad experience
in rheological characterization equipment is strongly preferred, a minimum
of 3 years is required. Experience and theoretical knowledge in the
following is required: polymer viscoelasticity, polymer processing, organic
chemistry and colloid science. Specific expertise in the application,
utilization and practice in one or more of the following analytical
technologies is also required: microscopy, thermal analysis, or scattering (
neutron, x-ray, light). Excellent communication and computer skills, strong
initiative, the ability to multi-task and work successfully in a team
environment is necessary.
