distillation through a column packed with copper gauze to inhibit
polymerisation. (This treatment also removes inhibitors such as methylene
blue that may be present.) Azeotropic distillation of the water with *
benzene converts aqueous acrylic acid to the anhydrous material.[Beilstein 2
