Nano 'Tinkertoys' may improve cancer therapy

U-M researchers have developed a faster, more efficient way to produce a wide
variety of nanoparticle drug delivery systems, using DNA molecules to bind the
particles together.
A nanoparticle assembly with folate attached on one end and a fluorescent
protein on the other is held together by complementary strands of DNA. It

not easy for a dendrimer to go through.

some advantage may be that ppl are eager to find new method at gene therapy
because bacterium gene therapy was reported as death path. Last year, one
person was killed by such method. The MIT professor seems to fall in a lawsuit
for that event.

It's not better than a fluoresence tagged antibody and Folate receptors is
not unique for tumor cell.
One thing I was confused that Folate receptors are expressed on the cell
surface, how can the nano particles enter the cell?

It is right. 20-80nm surface hydrophilic NPs can pentrate into living cell.
However, its current method can't guantee the NP will not escape from living
cells at the other side.
Anyway, it is a nice paper. far away from so-called breakthrough though.
