website, some school's homepage that listed ME with IE, ie.
Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
I looked through that page out of pure curiosity. I have couple of
questions:
1. I have never had clear idea what Industrial Engineering really is?
What's it about?
2. In the research area, however, I found something that interests me,
that is, Operations Research. What's the chinese name for Operation

我朋友是数学系的. 给B-SCHOOL做过点MODEL什么的. 但没学过任何工科的本科课程.
如果进IE去读operation research, 考qualify会不会有问题? 要不要补课? such as
dynamics, and/or some undergraduate engineering courses?

research area. it is better than Industrial Engineeering if you don't have
mechanical background. if you choose operation research area, you'd better to
get Ph.D and find a faculty position in the future. It is very hard to find a
related job in a company.

发帖数: 45075 | 7 thank you for the suggestion. It seemed to me one could hardly do Operation
Reseach alone. You have to do it with some other subjects, ie it's a very
inter-displinary stuff. because what we found on some schools websites is
either the professors doing some engineering and OR, or OR and supply chain,
or OR and management, or OR and maximization in economic theory, etc etc.
am I understanding this right?

background. There is no future in supply chain. This is a very old subjuct,
my personal opinion and very hard to find a job.

发帖数: 45075 | 9 probably only faculty job? last week some one posted a Niu Ren who got OR phd
in U Toronto and found a faculty position in Columbia upon graduation.
